The little boys were so excited to take this trip to New Mexico! I don't really know why but Charlie kept telling everyone we were going to New Mexico, which must be the destination that stood out in his mind. After all, we do have cousins we will be visiting while there!
When we pulled out of our camp and headed into town to get fuel in Mesa, we got turned around and couldn't find a gas station with diesel and easy pull in for the RV. It gets complicated when you are driving on unfamiliar roads, we feared getting stuck somewhere. Once we found a place to fuel up, I jumped out and grabbed some food with Chandler and Josh was conversing with the couple in the truck fueling up across from us. The couple was just leaving Mesa headed for Albuquerque where they recently moved. He recommended we take the beautiful highway 87 to Albuquerque which would take off 1 hour of the days drive. Josh was pretty excited to take the scenic byway to NM.
The drive was so beautiful. I hogged the front seat this entire drive. There was a scary moment on the road when the minivan several yards ahead of us appeared to have their reverse lights on. I mentioned to Josh that it was odd that both white back up lights were on while driving down a steep grade hill. As we reached the bottom of the hill the van didn't keep speed. We were headed straight for them. We got close enough to be able the see the panic in their car as they realized the car was in reverse. The passenger reached over and shifted the van into drive just as we were immediately behind them. It's amazing what you can see from up in the passenger seat!
We pulled into Albuquerque Central KOA at 5pm. We quickly set up camp and detached the car. We had a dinner date planned with some pretty awesome cousins residing here in Albuquerque. We were so excited to visit David and Jamie Voss on their home turf. They treated us to REAL AUTHENTIC New Mexican food! They arranged take out and had a wide variety of Mexican dishes to choose from. Everything was delicious! If you don't care for spicy food.... DON'T go authentic! Wink Wink.
We had a wonderful visit with our cousins. All of our kids played well together and we got to learn more about each others day to day lives and had some big chuckles! Love, Love having this opportunity to visit family, what a blessing. Thank you David and Jamie for welcoming us into your home and introducing us to some awesome authentic cuisine!
