Vosslings Adventure Part 2- Day 14

Day 14

Friday,   July 1, 2016     "Starry Night"

The forecast here in New York called for rain, so we planned to visit THE MET (Metropolitan Museum of Art). Visiting this museum was something I really wanted to do. The family doesn't necessarily share my love for Art and I understand that but this is an experience they don't want to miss. The MET houses many of the works by van Gogh, Monet, Renoir, Rembrandt and many more. There was a lot of space to cover so we decided to start in Ancient Egypt sculptures. It was pretty neat to see the many sculptures, jewels and hieroglyphics. Colin was fascinated with the dog sculpture- The guardian of the cemeteries.  We could have spent the entire day there but as the crowd grew bigger, we knew we had to break it down. All of my favorite artists were spread out so the family helped me locate the rooms they were in. When we got to Monet, the paintings were breathtaking. Josh found an artist that had a profound effect on him. He found a painting that spoke to him and that brings me great happiness to share that moment with him. I did much research on van Gogh and Monet throughout my younger years. They speak to me. When we reached the van Gogh section, I was in awe. The paintings were beautiful. The art displayed by van Gogh wasn't just your traditional over seen paintings you find on gifts, they were a collection of his works. Something worth seeing. As Carmen looked over my shoulder, I mentioned that his famous piece "Starry Night" wasn't there. I wanted to see it and wondered where it was located. As Carmen waited for me to finish up, she did her research and told me the painting was in New York just at a different Museum. I was so grateful to have had the opportunity to visit The MET and see my favorite artists work in person.
As we exited the building, I looked back to see the crowd that sat out on the front steps. It certainly was a place of interest. I was a happy girl.

We walked through the streets without a destination in mind but discussed going back to Rockefeller Center.  Josh grabbed our hands and quickly crossed the street. I was a bit confused as to where we were going. When I looked up I saw we were standing in front of The Museum of Modern Art. OH MY GOSH! "Starry Night" was on display there. He did this for me! We entered the building and they told us that it was free admission today and we had to go to the back door to get our free ticket. When we went outside we followed the end of the line..... it went all the way around the entire city block! I told Josh I knew he loved me but we didn't have to do this. It would be agonizing for everyone. He said we were doing this, that's it. Surprisingly enough, the line moved very quickly. The crowd moved in a well organized line. There were HUNDREDS of people moving up and down the escalators in a very orderly fashion. You wouldn't believe it. Our goal was to go directly to the painting. We went up to the 5th floor and there it was centered on a wall in the middle of the room surrounded by a big crowd. Josh grabbed me and said "I'LL GET YOU IN!" so he pushed me right in front of the crowd. Right in front of this stunning piece of art. In that moment my eyes filled with tears and I was speechless. It was just beautiful, both the painting and the moment my husband helped make happen. This day was very special to me.

When we got off the subway, we were just yards from the hotel when the rain hit...hard. We all ducted under the food cart umbrella and just laughed. What a day!
