Vosslings Adventure Part 2- Day 18

Day 18

Tuesday,  July 5, 2016    National Treasure

We departed from NJ in the pouring rain at 7am. That was not fun. Next stop, Washington DC. We made a impromptu pitstop in Runnemede, NJ where we found the nearest Walmart, unhitched the car and took a detour into Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. We took a chance and drove out to see the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall. We were way too close to pass up this opportunity.

When we arrived at the Independence Hall building, there was a sign out front that said free tickets were being handed out at the Welcome Center. There weren't very many people there at all. Very surprising seeing as it was the day after 4th of July. The man at the ticket counter told us we had to take the tour and the next one was at 2:45pm. That was NOT going to work for us. That was a bummer. Just across the street was The National Constitution Center so we walked over hoping to have better luck there. They were open to the public and had some fun information on the past Presidential elections and the election process. Charlie got to pretend he was President for about a minute. He was very proud of himself! I couldn't take many photos but it was a very educational museum. Very much like being in History Class with your favorite teacher that plays games all day and you don't even realize you're learning something. The guide there told us we picked a good day to visit the museum because the day before there was more than 12,000 people there. YIKES! At the Constitution Center, we were able to see an original Bill of Rights Document. It was rather large, in a glass security censored box and had guards telling us not to touch the box....repeatedly reminding us not to touch the box...We learned so much at the Constitution Center. It was a very informative place.

On our way to see the Liberty Bell, the line had tripled in size from earlier. We decided to skip the line and take a look at it from the outside window.  It was pretty cool! Due to the fact we couldn't stay for the Independance Hall tour, we headed back to the car. When we got back to the RV at Walmart, we did our grocery shopping and got back on the road to DC. Thank you Walmart for accepting crazy RV people anytime, no questions asked.

We unpacked the RV and settled in at the Cherry Hill RV Resort in College Park, Maryland. After dinner, we watched the movie "National Treasure" with Nicolas Cage, which revolved around Independence Hall and Liberty Bell. Good times!
